During dinner conversation with some musicians the question came up, "If you could play with anyone in the world, who would it be?" Most of them named esoteric, cerebral bands. Me, I said, "Katy Perry." Why? Crazy costumes, chart topping pop hits, and global touring. Since that was HIGHLY unlikely to happen the next best thing was to put together the world's first Katy Perry tribute band. What's first on the list? Build lollipops...a lot of them. Of course there has to be the right girl to play Katy.
A chance detour one night, a discarded banana peel and two world's collide: A beautiful, talented 18 year old with shelves full of figure skating trophies and an award winning music director start building a tight, exciting act. And yes, there are lollipops, bow ties, and sexy authentic costumes. Firework - The Katy Perry Tribute was born and got kicked out in a firestorm of fun.
Their first show was in a 1000 seat auditorium with three costume changes, two set changes and fans so confused they knew they were watching the real Katy.
Eight short months later Firework is headlining House of Blues. It's all Katy's fault.
