China Grove is a top-shelf Doobie Brothers tribute band from the Tampa Bay area, whoâs repertoire spans the many decades and styles of the legendary California group. From the jamminâ rock of âLong Train Runninâ to the jazzy âTakinâ it to the Streetsâ, and the bluesy âDark Eyed Cajun Womanâ to the Grammy award winning pop of âWhat a Fool Believesâ, this group blazes through a sizzling set of memory-jarring classic hits and album cuts with stunning accuracy and passion. Led by vocalist/ guitarist J Todd Plant, who fronted a band featuring Doobie Brothers alumni Chet McCracken, the late Cornelius Bumpus and the late Dave Shogren, doing the hits of the Doobies all across America. Heâs also worked with members of Chicago, Steely Dan, Kansas, Blue Oyster Cult, Firefall, Marshall Tucker Band, Tom Petty Band, Rick Derringer, and was the voice of Hulk Hoganâs fight song âAmerican Madeâ.
Bassist/vocalist Hiram Hazley toured with the late-great Buddy Miles (Hendrix, Santana), jazz greats Kenny Drew Jr. & Manfredo Fest, and 19 years at Tampaâs Busch Gardens.
Drummer/vocalist Michael Comparetto has performed and/or recorded with BB King, Toby Keith, Pat Travers, Rick Derringer, & members of Firefall, the Outlaws, Molly Hatchett, Savoy Brown, and was a session drummer at Miamiâs Criterion Studios.
Rounding out the lineup is Chicago Blues scene guitarist Dave Mueller, who is the long-time âCarlosâ for Santana tribute band Supernatural (also featuring Plant), and stellar Hammond B3, Nord C2D and Korg Triton player Rick Curran who also works with several Tampa Bay area blues bands.
